Community Spotlight

Community outreach is a vital service that we are blessed to have access to. Throughout Texas and Louisiana many such programs are available. One such outreach, in Beaumont, TX, is the American Legion Hall Post 33. Officially chartered in 1933, the Post has provided life changing assistance to the community for many years.

During the Post's early years, it was known as a popular place for judges and lawyers from Jefferson County courthouse to meet for a bite to eat or drink before court. In more recent years, the event hall became a very popular place in Beaumont for concerts, wedding receptions, parties, and civic events.

Due to several circumstances, including Hurricane Harvey and then Imelda, Post 33 began to lose membership; and around 2019, it was nearly dormant. Sadly, the Beaumont community lost the much needed community and veteran outreach that this Post provided.

Over the last 3 years a very determined group of veterans has sought to rebuild what was lost.  They have increased membership and the Post now houses multiple veteran-based organizations, a girl scout troop, the Pipkin Park Honor Guard, and it serves as a meeting place for a local neighborhood association.

Unfortunately, building maintenance has now become a serious priority, and Post 33 is in need of the community's help. Built in 1948, their current building is 75 years old this year. As with any 75 year old building, there are multiple issues that need to be addressed. Monument’s team has partnered with the American Legion Hall Post 33 to help them in their efforts to raise the funds they need.

It’s important to note that, contrary to popular belief, the American Legion Hall does not receive regular money from the federal government and grant processes can take years to complete with no guarantee for funds. This is why they are reaching out to the community for help.

Since Post 33’s building turns 75 next year, they have set a fundraising goal motto of “Strive for 75”. It is their goal to get the community’s help to have the repairs completed in order to re-open the doors in celebration of the building’s 75th anniversary next year

We are lucky to have a local group of veterans with the heart to help other members of our community with the kind of programs that the American Legion Hall offers. It is our goal to get this community's help in raising the funds they need to make this happen.
